Show Some Respect
I had the honor this week of speaking to the Iowa House Democrats at their weekly lunch and learn session about ending workplace harassment. It was a very special engagement because this talk was for lawmakers/influencers and it was the first time I was back at the Iowa Capitol since I was fired in 2013 for complaining about sexual harassment and retaliation I had experienced for years by my legislative employer and staff.
What made this lunch and learn particularly special was that no one in the room made it about politics. This group engaged in dialogue with me, asked meaningful questions, and truly discussed how they can go back to their communities and stop workplace harassment in it’s tracks. This is what we need to start to end workplace harassment and bullying.
After discussion, we all agreed that respectful behavior is key – leaders need to continually extend respect so others can see it and learn from it. So be sure to show some respect wherever you are because others are learning from your good example!
